Marty Quiñones

Counsel

Overview

Marty has dedicated his career to serving people and communities harmed by corporate bad actors. He has represented plaintiffs in state and federal court across the country, including appellate proceedings in multiple state supreme courts and courts of appeal in six federal circuits, as well as certiorari and merits stage briefing in the United States Supreme Court. Before joining Sher Edling in 2017, Marty represented consumers, employees, and tort victims in individual and class action proceedings against large corporate defendants.

Marty’s current practice focuses on the firm’s climate change docket, with a special emphasis on law-and-motion and appellate advocacy. In that role Marty supports public clients pursuing claims against fossil-fuel companies whose deceptive and misleading conduct allegedly caused and contributed to unprecedented climate harms, from rising seas and flooding to drought and wildfires. He frequently has a lead role crafting the most complex and novel legal arguments facing the firm’s clients, especially on issues of civil procedure, jurisdiction, and tort.

In law school, Marty served as a Supervising Editor for the California Law Review, the Marketing Editor for the Berkeley Journal of Gender, Law and Justice, the treasurer of the Berkeley Law Queer Caucus, a chapter board member of Law Students for Reproductive Justice, and a coordinator for the Workers’ Rights Clinic.

Outside of work, Marty enjoys buying and selling vintage and antique home decor local to his home in Oakland, California, both for pleasure and to reduce the environmental impact of consumer waste. He believes in the power of shopping secondhand to reroute reusable products destined for the landfill, and to minimize the volume of new manufacturing, packaging, and shipping necessary to furnish a comfortable life.
