Paul Stephan

Counsel

Overview

Paul Stephan represents state and local governments to protect the natural environment, hold polluters accountable, and ensure justice for communities.

Paul represents 47 Bay Area counties, cities, and towns where Monsanto’s decades-long manufacture of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) has created persistent environmental contamination threatening the health of Bay Area residents. Paul also represents cities and states against major oil companies who engaged in a coordinated deception campaign about the climate change impacts of their products. Across his docket, Paul navigates complex legal issues and far-reaching discovery, guiding cases from pre-suit investigation to filing, discovery, motion practice, and beyond.

Prior to joining Sher Edling, Paul was an associate at Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC, where he litigated class actions on behalf of consumers harmed by deceptive advertising and defective products. Previously, he clerked for the Honorable Anne E. Thompson of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
