Water
When water is polluted, communities pay the price. We work to make sure those harmed by contamination aren’t the ones left to clean it up.
Sher Edling is proud to represent states, cities, and public water providers in lawsuits against the manufacturers of toxic chemicals that pollute groundwater and other natural resources. Clean water is vital to everyone. So, when water supplies are contaminated with chemicals or other dangerous pollutants, public health is endangered and taxpayers and utility customers are left to pay the high capital costs for the technology and infrastructure required for treatment, testing, and monitoring, in addition to decades of ongoing operation and maintenance.
Public entities are responsible for delivering drinking water to their communities that meets all state and federal standards established to protect human health and the environment from the range of threats posed by PFAS, 1,4-dioxane, PCBs, hexavalent chromium, TCP, and other persistent and emerging contaminants. The financial burdens associated with providing that first line of defense are substantial.
Sher Edling’s water provider clients were recently awarded more than $400 million in historic settlements with 3M Company and DuPont over PFAS contamination.
We have assembled a team with both the legal and technical expertise to take on some of the largest chemical manufacturers in the world. Currently, Partners at Sher Edling serve in leadership roles of the Aqueous Film-Forming Foam Multidistrict Litigation (AFF MDL) coordinated in federal court in South Carolina, serving on the Executive Committee and co-chairing the Public Water Supply and Sovereign subcommittees.
